Under the direction of the Senior Director of Transportation and Logistics, the incumbent is responsible for managing transportation and logistics operations. This includes strategic planning, and the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) aligned with organizational goals and objectives.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Transportation
- Ensure data integrity and system functionality within the TMS and ERP platforms
- Develop and maintain the Ocean Freight Manual Routing Guide
- Conduct weekly and monthly freight spend analysis
- Lead weekly transportation team meetings to align on execution strategies
- Build and maintain relationships with third-party transportation providers
- Evaluate third-party transportation capacity and implement procurement strategies as needed
3PL Shipping
- Coordinate outbound (OB) and inbound (IB) schedules with Account Services to balance distribution center workflows
- Manage daily communication with the 3PL to ensure FEFO (First Expired, First Out) compliance and monitor finished goods (FG) inventory availability
- Oversee OB and IB operations to ensure alignment with facility capacity
Inventory Management
- Execute open order allocations and manage transfer activities
- Monitor finished goods inventory carrying costs
- Collaborate with Account Services and Production to align inventory levels with customer needs; communicate delays and coordinate short-ship activities with the Sales team when necessary
- Perform monthly inventory reconciliations with the 3PL and lead semi-annual physical inventory counts
Invoice Processing
- Process freight invoices in accordance with contractual terms
- Process 3PL shipping invoices per the terms of the agreement
- Conduct and support invoice audits to ensure accuracy and compliance
Strategies for Continuous Improvement
- Develop and implement strategic freight plans for both domestic and international transportation
- Identify and pursue opportunities for continuous improvement across transportation processes
- Analyze market trends and align transportation strategies with evolving industry conditions and business needs
- Create and maintain internal monthly transportation KPIs to track performance and drive accountability
- Develop and maintain external transportation KPIs and lead carrier performance and development initiatives
- Design and implement transportation tools to support reporting and operational execution
- Prepare monthly summaries covering transportation and 3PL shipping performance metrics
- Conduct regular monthly cadence calls with 3PL warehouse service providers to review performance and address issues
- Lead the procurement and qualification process for freight providers to ensure alignment with operational and financial goals
- Conduct outbound network studies to optimize cost efficiency and reduce transit times
- Establish and manage an Over, Short, and Damaged (OS&D) process to minimize accounts receivable (AR) deductions
Education/Experience
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience leading and managing teams
- At least 5 years’ experience managing transportation providers, including Truckload (TL), Less-than-Truckload (LTL), Small Parcel, Ocean, and Air freight
- 5+ years of experience negotiating both domestic and international freight contracts
- 10+ years of proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Access
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
Preferred:
- MBA in Business or a related field
- Experience managing 3PL shipping operations
- Proven ability to manage inventory allocations across multiple channels or locations
- Experience overseeing distribution of goods within the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry
- Proficiency with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
- Hands-on experience with MercuryGate Transportation Management System (TMS)
- Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (ERP)
